1. Take a boat trip from L'Île-Rousse

L'Île-Rousse is the ideal starting point for boat trips. You can board for a trip along the coast, discover wild coves accessible only by sea and admire the magnificent landscapes around the island.
Several operators offer boat trips, from simple outings around the island to longer excursions to neighbouring destinations, such as the Scandola nature reserve (between Calvi and Porto) or the Île de la Pietra. You can also opt for a glass-bottom boat trip, which lets you discover the underwater fauna and flora, with crystal-clear waters ideal for diving.

2. Visit North Corsica by 4x4 or quad bike
Exploring North Corsica by 4x4 offers a unique way to discover the island's varied landscapes and emblematic sites by reaching places that are otherwise inaccessible, combining adventure and discovery. For a complete experience, it is recommended to book these excursions in advance, especially during the high tourist season.

Set off to discover the Agriates desert by 4x4

Located between L'Île-Rousse and Saint-Florent, the Agriates desert is a vast protected region offering breathtaking panoramas. 4x4 excursions let you cross this desert to reach secluded beaches such as Saleccia and Lotu, renowned for their white sand and turquoise waters.
Explore the magnificent Asco valley by 4x4
The Asco valley, crossed by one of the most picturesque rivers in North Corsica, is another must-see site. 4x4 excursions let you venture into this green valley, admire the impressive gorges and stop for a refreshing swim in the natural pools of the Asco.

Beyond the landscapes, these excursions offer an immersion in Corsican culture. Through the guides, you will discover anecdotes about the island's history, fauna, flora and traditions.
3. Visit L'Île-Rousse, its town centre and its market
The town centre of L'Île-Rousse is a true living place, where history, culture and local crafts blend. As you walk, you will discover a pleasant atmosphere, with its narrow lanes lined with charming shops and small art galleries. The covered market, located near the port, is a must-stop for visitors looking for local flavours. You will find a wide variety of Corsican products such as sheep's cheeses, charcuterie, honey, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables from the region.
For info, the market is open every morning, and it is the perfect place to buy authentic souvenirs or taste local produce. After your visit to the market, why not sit down on one of the many terraces of the port? Enjoy the view of the sea and the old port while savouring a coffee or a local speciality, such as a Corsican focaccia or an artisanal ice cream.
4. Discover the old town and its history

The old town of L'Île-Rousse is a true journey back in time, where every lane and every building tells a story. Founded in 1758 by Pasquale Paoli, the town has kept its authenticity and charm.
If you are wondering what to visit in L'Île-Rousse, the old port is the ideal starting point for a stroll to admire pretty little shaded squares and stone buildings that bear witness to the island's Genoese past. Wandering its cobbled streets, you will discover traditional stone houses, old fountains and picturesque chapels.
Don't miss visiting the Church of Mercy or the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a fine example of Corsican religious architecture. The town also offers superb viewpoints, notably from the Place Paoli, where you can admire the panoramic view over the sea and the surrounding mountains. The old town, with its peaceful atmosphere and typical architecture, is a perfect place to soak up the history and culture of L'Île-Rousse.
5. Visit the Île de la Pietra

Accessible by boat or on foot, the Île de la Pietra is a little haven of peace that houses the Genoese tower of La Pietra. This island is ideal for a day trip, with its hiking trails and wild beaches. A must if you come to visit L'Île-Rousse.
A few directions for getting to the island?
- Take a boat from the port of L'Île-Rousse (allow about 10 minutes for the crossing).
- Or walk to the island via a bridge linking the island to the town (about 20 minutes' walk).
You can climb the Genoese tower, dating from the 16th century, to enjoy a spectacular view over L'Île-Rousse, the sea and the surrounding mountains.
Don't hesitate either to walk the hiking trails that offer magnificent panoramas over the coastline and Corsican nature, such as Mediterranean plants and the maquis.
6. Hike to the Parata Tower

The Parata Tower is one of the emblematic sites of L'Île-Rousse and a must for hiking lovers. Perched on a hill, about 2 km from the town, this Genoese tower offers a spectacular view over the Mediterranean Sea, the coast and the surrounding mountains.
For info, the hike to the tower is relatively accessible, with a well-marked path winding through typical Corsican landscapes: centuries-old olive trees, fragrant maquis and rugged rocks. Allow 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your pace, a chance to observe the local fauna and flora along the way.
Once at the tower, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over L'Île-Rousse, the Gulf of Calvi and, in clear weather, the mountains of the Balagne. It is the ideal place to take photos and enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
The tower itself is an old construction dating from the 17th century, used by the Genoese to watch the Corsican coasts and protect against invasions. Although the tower is not open to the public, its strategic location makes it an excellent viewpoint to admire the sunset or simply spend a quiet moment in the middle of nature.
