This year, it's decided, you are heading to Spain, to the Balearic Islands! Explore the diversity and beauty of Menorca in a week. Here are the places of interest not to be missed during your stay on the island, as well as a selection of the best hotels to sleep in. The ideal is to have a hire car so you can move around as you like.

How to visit Menorca in 7 days?

To help you plan this trip as well as possible, here is a recommended itinerary to see as much as possible in a week. Remember to book your activities before you come, or you risk finding them full during your stay!

Day 1: visit Mahón, the capital of the island

Visit Menorca in 7 days: day 1 Mahón

For this first day of your holiday, get into the mood by visiting the fish market (mercat des peix) and trying local produce. For this, you don't need your car (leave it in the hotel car park or the one at Plaça de la Miranda near the market). You can then continue to the mercat del claustre, right next door in the former cloister.

In the historic centre, walk the main streets such as Carrer Nou, Carrer de ses Mores or Carrer del Hannover. Go and see the famous Portal de Sant Roc with its two towers (a relic of the old wall of Mahón). Continue your visit by strolling along the port and stop to eat a few tapas on a terrace.

In the afternoon, go visit La Mola Fortress. To get there, allow about 20 minutes by car. Once there, the visit will take a little over 2 hours on foot given the size of the site. It is also possible to hire golf buggies to visit the outdoor areas.

End the day at the nearest cove, Cala Mesquida for a well-deserved swim.

Day 2: Discovering the north of the island on foot, by bike or on horseback

For this second day of holiday, set off to explore the island along the Camí de Cavalls. As it goes all the way around Menorca, here is a nice hiking idea to do in the north of the island, 6.6 km (there and back). Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes to complete it: all the info here.

Practical information: On the Camí de Cavalls, dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. Also note that it is possible to return by taxi if you don't want to walk back the same way.

After this hike, you can have lunch in Fornells, a little fishing village with charming white houses by the sea. You can try the famous caldereta de langosta, the local culinary speciality, a spiny lobster stew. Be careful, remember to book in high season, because you will surely not be the only ones.

For this fourth day, explore the former capital, its sublime cathedral and its markets. As a bit of history, Ciutadella was the former capital of Menorca. Don't miss either Es Born square with its obelisk in front of the town hall.

If you are feeling a little hungry, you can have lunch on the port or in local restaurants. Here are a few addresses to note: the Mediterranean restaurant Racó d'es Palau and Smoix Restaurant. Near the fish market, you will also find many restaurants. A chance to taste fresh fish just in from the day's catch.

In the afternoon, you can visit the Lithica labyrinth (Pedreres de s'Hostal). This historic site a few km from Ciutadella houses a botanical garden and the s'Hostal quarries where the island's famous limestone called "marès" was extracted. This natural site is now made up of 3 labyrinths and 4 gardens. Allow a little over 2 hours for the visit.

Day 5: Head to the beach, Monte Toro then visit a cheese factory

Start your day with a moment of relaxation by going to lay your towel on Platja Arenal d'en Castell, one of the most attractive beaches on the island. Its special feature: its arc of fine sand encircling a bay with calm turquoise waters. Arenal d'en Castell is ideal for families with young children, swimmers or holidaymakers looking for a corner of paradise to relax and sunbathe.

To visit Menorca in 7 days, we have the perfect programme! On this fifth day, after your lunch, you can go up to the highest point on the island: Monte Toro. It is less than 30 minutes by car from the beach. A viewpoint not to be missed if you come to the island on holiday.

Then on the way down, we advise you to visit a local cheese factory. You will discover the culinary heritage of Menorca, the famous Mahón-Menorca with protected designation of origin (PDO). This cheese reflects the essence of the terroir of the island of Menorca, a must-do during your holiday.
